Do you need a logo design? Not sure where to start and what’s involved?
A logo is the ‘face’ of your business. It’s generally the first thing a potential customer will see, and the first point of recognition. You want your logo to tell people what it is you offer in a single glance.
Read below about things to consider when choosing a logo design.
Your Business Name
This one seems pretty obvious. You need your business name in your logo, so that people know who you are.
When choosing a business name, it’s important to consider choosing a name that reflects what you offer. The more obvious the better. Try to keep it short and concise, as this is easier for people to remember.
Tagline
Do you have a tagline for your business, that might give more insight into what it is you do? A tagline can be super helpful if you have a business name that isn’t quite obvious.
An example might be a business named ” John Smith Therapy “. This isn’t very forthcoming with what exactly it is they offer, so a tagline stating “Remedial Massage & Sports Therapy ” gives the reader more insight, as well as whether or not they might be interested in the businesses products or service.
Design – Font, Imagery & Colours
Moving onto the design. There are a number of elements to consider in a logo. Lets start with the font.
Fonts
Fonts can actually be very emotive, so you want this to reflect your business mood or feel. If your brand is more masculine, you would be more likely to consider a bold, strong font, compared to something like a script. Font matters.
Imagery
Using imagery that shows what you do is also important. If you can incorporate this into the design of your logo, then it becomes easier for viewers to see what your focus is on, or even make you more memorable by sticking an image in their mind.
You can see in the logo below that blueberries were used to replace the letters ‘OO’. In this case the client’s main product was blueberry powder that the sold to clients and how the brand originated. This is a visual representation in the logo instead of just using letters.
Colours
You might not think that the colours in your logo are important, but they are. There are many studies around the psychology of colours and how the human mind reacts to them. If you are interested, you can read more here.
Certain colours portray moods. As an example greens and browns can reflect nature and earth and are more likely to be found in natural food products.
The logo design below was for a farm, and was designed with green produce and brown rich soil in mind.
Why it’s best to hire an expert
Although a logo design might seem fairly straight forward, there is a lot more to take into consideration than you might initially think.
When designing your logo, you need to take into consideration not just all of the above, but also your current plan and your future direction of your business. That way your logo can truly reflect what it is you offer and communicate to people who see your logo. An experienced designer will ask questions and make sure that the face of your business will not only be eye catching and send the right message, but also have longevity.
