HOW TO USE SOCIAL MEDIA TO GET MORE SALES…
A big thing I’ve seen with some of my clients, is that they don’t really know why they are using social media for their business or how to get sales. Some just think they have to be there because every one else is, and some use it only to try and ‘sell’, which rarely works.
You have to remember, social media is exactly that – social.
Although people have become used to seeing ads, and business on Social Media, they aren’t going to follow you if you aren’t offering either entertainment or education.
So, the big question is, HOW DO YOU LEVERAGE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA?
Here’s a few options you might like to try:
1. LEAD GENERATION VIA EMAIL MARKETING ON SOCIAL MEDIA
One of the most widely used method is to direct people to sign up for your emails – typically in exchange for something free.
This is a great ‘lead generation’ strategy that gives you the opportunity to gain consumers details, and nurture and build trust through regular contact. Decision making can be a long process, so the more frequently you stay in touch and offer valuable information, the more likely you are to convert that sale!
You can get people to sign up via:
- your website link – leading to a landing page with a sign up page
- a Facebook / Instagram ad that captures users details or leads to a landing page
- Instagram link tr.ee bio (or similar)
- Youtube description link
- Or many others
What you can give people in exchange for their email:
- Free ebooks
- Free trials
- Webinars

2. CREATE A COMMUNITY ON SOCIAL MEDIA
This might sound a little 🤢, but can honestly be one of your most powerful tools!
A social media community in a nutshell is a group of people that relate to common experiences or interests.
If your community encourages people to become involved, then you are doing the number one thing that converts sales – building trust.
To build a community you need to communicate!
- Ask questions
- Give feedback / advice
- Give validation to those seeking it
- Share social proof
- Involve people in your passion
There’s so many way to do this, but the main thing is that you build that connection!
3. DIRECT SALES ON SOCIAL MEDIA
You can use most major social media platforms to generate sales of your products / services directly.
Your two main options are to sell directly through the app, so that consumers don’t leave the platform. This option does have a few limitations, so it’s best to check your needs based on the platform your are using.
Or you can direct people to your sales page on your website.
This can be done via:
- Organic Posts
- Paid Ads
- Referrals
- Influencer marketing
If you are taking the direct sales approach, it’s important that you aren’t just trying to push sales out of the blue. You need to build trust first – particularly if you are trying selling through ads.
SUMMARY
Don’t just jump on the Social Media Bandwagon for the sake of it. Use it as a strategy to help generate sales for your business. Plan and decide which method/s you are going to utilise (ideally all three). Plan your content so that it develops trust with your audience, builds a community and then lead those sales.
